Hey guys!
I’m a current high school student, graduating this year, and I’m looking to start an online writing group for youths. This is something I’ve always wanted to do to help others as much as myself, since my writing journey thus far has been entirely independent and I know how much I could have benefited from having an encouraging environment around me.
I’ve found that support for young writers isn't great in terms of readily available writing resources, and most writing groups are composed of older people. By having a group composed entirely of young people, we would be able to connect on a more personal level and would be a great support group for each other. My vision is that this won’t just be a writing group for young people, but a writing initiative as a whole— something that could inspire young people everywhere to start writing. I have a whole vault of ideas as to how we could go about doing this. The dream would be to grow big enough to be able to host small community contests, with the aim to post stories on a website in order to motivate and encourage young writers. Of course, that’s a long ways away.
As of now, I’m just looking for like-minded people who would be interested in participating in an online group to talk about all things writing. We would meet regularly on a zoom call or other platform (weekly/bi-weekly) in order to provide structured feedback on works in progress. I don’t want to set a specific age limitation, as all teens/youths are welcome. If you feel like you fit with the vision I’ve described and are simply looking to grow as a writer alongside peers that share a similar drive as you, I would love for you to join!
If you’re interested, send me a PM and we can discuss things. I know most of the people on here are older, but if you know of anyone interested who would fit the age range, please do let them know and send me a message for my email so we can get in touch.
Thanks!
Hey simon, that’s a great idea. I’ll join if you will have me I graduated this year too in the confines of quarantine haha.
I’ve only just started writing short stories, so I’ll be mostly in the background somewhat in terms of advice giving, but I’ll be happy to chat and look over what people wrote.

Sweet! Just sent you a message.
Great idea, SimonP! There are other youths in here as well. I wish all of you much success as you support one another in your writing endeavors.
Cheers!
