Instead of necromancing an old thread, I'm starting one anew. Here's one of the two old ones if you want to check it out: (The other was remov

Logline Critiques Call for loglines and reviewers 4/28

TL;DR I'd said:

According to Lockhart, there are three important elements needed for a good logline:

who the story is about (protagonist)
what he strives for (goal)
what stands in his way (antagonistic force).

My suggestions:
Write a logline for your written story.
Write a logline for your future stories.
If you don't outline, just logline.

Here's an amazing article by Christopher Lockhart. I highly recommend printing the first 17 pages, stapling them, and putting them in whatever folder you have for info-y tidbits.

Remember, not to post your ideas here!

If you're interested in someone having a look - post that you are interested and see if you can get some swaps.
Now, get busy! fistinair

Thanks for the link. I've had a peek, I'll take a longer look.
There is a Loglines group in Scribophile. The guy who set it up wrote loads of good stuff about the subject. For him, it had to be 27 words long and a typical format is When incident, occurs character with role and motivation pursues goal, only to discover that opposition threatens disaster.
Seems to me it's a fault with this forum that we can't discuss ideas or anything to do with a story - in case a judge looks in - when we (at least I) never see judges posting here. Why would they? You can post a logline in Scrib and hopefully get interaction with a few people on it.

I've tried writing a logline and struggled - they can be as hard as writing a synopsis!

TimE, while I agree it would be nice to post and share story ideas, I have found the way to circumvent it is PMs (and make new friends!).
AKA, I'm happy to work with you on loglines if interested.

We had the group years ago (From the link above). Take a look at the names of the participants....

Looks a good group. I'm struggling to write my name at the moment, let alone a logline, so I'll pass for now - thanks.
(BTW I enjoyed reading the non-winning stories from the thread you created. Good idea. Thanks for doing that.)

I'll try some first-draft lines for stories that won't be submitted to WotF, then read the article you linked to see how it helps.

    [/list:u:6m9dy6sd]

    • Two childhood friends meet at an abandoned playground as an apocalyptic flood threatens to destroy more than their friendship[/*:m:6m9dy6sd]
    • An immortal man loses his last living family member and endeavours to regenerate himself and his castle home to continue the family name[/*:m:6m9dy6sd]
    • After her daughter's death, a woman hikes to the top of a waterfall to seek her partner who blames himself for their child's accident[/*:m:6m9dy6sd]
    • In the depths of a Scottish winter, a woman returns from a holiday to find a mysterious face-shaped mould growing on the side of her isolated forest house[/*:m:6m9dy6sd]
    • In the mid-1990s, a teenage girl wishes to become a pro-wrestler, but being accepted is harder than she imagined[/*:m:6m9dy6sd]
    • In a world where the dead aren't always dead, a coffin-encased man wishes for a final minute of life to make up for the life he felt he wasted[/*:m:6m9dy6sd][/list:u:6m9dy6sd]
    • That was fun. wotf008

I'm happy to receive feedback on those and send and receive possible WotF entries by PM.

I think a good exercise would be to write taglines for favourite stories or films, then see how they compare to the real thing.

      4 SHM / 12 HM / 7 R
