Why preorder is important: Get enough preorders, and it bumps Amazon's algorithms, feeding the beast, helping the anthology hit #1 bestseller status right out of the gate on release or shortly thereafter. You see, winners of WotF get another prize. They are not only award-winning authors, they become bestselling authors because of the opening push. One day, you will benefit from this, too. Amazon best sellers is an interesting discussion topic. I read a book which was about a man who tried to return found objects to their owners. It was a best seller at Amazon under the category of Women's Divorce Fiction. To be fair, the man's personal assistant was divorced. So if you put your book under an underused category at Amazon it can easily become a best seller.

I'm getting caught up. Reading V. 34 presently. Then on to 35 (although I did pick out one particular story that I just had to read right away. Wink, wink, nod, nod).
By the time this hits my mailbox, I shall be fully versed and ready for new stories!

True. But when you're talking about Writers of the Future volumes, we're talking about #1 Fantasy Anthology, #1 Science Fiction Anthology, etc. etc. on Amazon. These are big categories with heavy sales volumes and ranking high in them is a legit claim to being a bestseller. Even making Top 10 in these categories would be considered bestseller status. And heavy preorders help a WotF Volume hit these important markers on release date, propelling the launch to the top of the charts.

I gobbled it up already. Posted my review this morning on Amazon although it's not up yet. If you like it, post a review on Amazon. It really helps to get some good reviews up. The Amazon algorithms will elevate the book.

You must be in Quote-mode or Full editor. There is a little button across the top of the posting box. "Img". You click this and then enter the URL for an image between the open and close img codes.

Aargh. For some reason, my pre-order isn't available until tomorrow on Kobo. I wouldn't be surprised if that was some kind of Scamazon thing.

I was about to settle down for a read. Oh well, one more day.

I preordered through Barnes & Noble. When I went to pick it up they held the door open a crack and refused to accept cash so we had to use a debit card.

This is the best way to figure out what Kary, Dave, and the rest of the judges like. Study the latest to be current on what type of stories win this contest, and how they are constructed. You can't hit a target if you don't know what it looks like.
