The dark side of me thinks maybe I'd sim sub it. But that would be the time I'd win just so I'd have expose my breaking of a submission rule LOL.

But now it is the middle of next week so maybe very soon I won't have to consider nefarious deeds because hopefully we are close to go go gadget Q4 results.

Never simultaneous submit to this contest. I know of a recent case that did. When Joni called, the writer had to confess that they had just sold the story elsewhere. It was not a good trade, and the writer knew it.

I've made it a personal rule to never break anyone's submission guidelines, no matter where I'm submitting. If they say specifically, "We do not accept simultaneous submissions," then I follow it. I don't want to develop a reputation one day among publishers of being that guy. On the plus side, it's good to know I'd never make it in life as a successful villain, because I've learned through experience that if anyone is gonna get caught doing something wrong, it'll be me.

Well at least the wait is over for Q3. Now we can all start flipping out over Q4. The suspense continues!

I concur with Morgan. My own integrity is worth more to me than getting paid for a publication.

And so now we await the results for Q4...

I only hope that if they have a similar email issue as they did with Q3 that they tell us the phone calls have gone out. After we got the hint that we should be "notified soon" I spent waaaaay too long checking emails/hoping for a call Smile Just knowing that the calls are done would make that wait easier!

@amstard  Q4 will go fast, Amstard. The Q3 issue was not WotF's fault, but it has now been fixed. I'd expect results in about a week. They are back on their regular schedule now, with the gala and Volume 38 release set for April next year. The show must go on!

Cheers!

Of course! I certainly wouldn’t blame tech issues on the Galaxy Press team, and I’m grateful for all the work the judges and staff do! I am definitely glad to hear that such delays aren’t likely for Q4.

I checked in with Dave a day or so ago. Y'all should be hearing something Real Soon Now (TM).

I do not know if calls have gone out.  If I did know, I wouldn't be allowed to say, but in this particular case, I actually don't know.  😉

I wonder if Joni prefers to call everyone at a specific time/day. I'm guessing things could get pretty dicey with different time zones and such.

@gmanwriter Both of my "You're a finalist" calls were mid-afternoon. Both "You didn't win" calls were late evening. US central time.

That being said, Joni is a strange and mysterious force accountable only to herself and the elder gods: she calls when she calls. 😉

One of my finalist calls, I'd been watching the phone ALL DAY. It was a Sunday, and the hubs and kid were on a Boy Scout campout so it was prime chick flick time for me. Once it hit 10 pm, I figured no way Joni would call that late at night, and on a Sunday, too. I made a huge bowl of popcorn and tucked myself into the corner of the couch to watch a Jane Austen movie.

RING!!

Emails on Sunday are possible, but less likely. On the one hand, never say never. On the other, everyone is probably safe until Monday. Unless Joni is out of town or somesuch, next week is prime twitching time.

Time and time again I am astounded by this contest. What other place cares so much about people who submit to it that members of staff regularly communicate with forum members? That staff let others know when it's okay to twitch and when it's too soon?

Most places you're even lucky to get a rejection. Sometimes you don't even know you've been rejected until you see some announcement about the winners.

Thank you all for the hard work you do!

I've only ever done one simultaneous submission to markets that actually accept simultaneous submissions! I should do it more often to get my rejection count/chance of selling up, but I usually submit to my favourite magazine of the 2 or 3 first.

@karyenglish & @wulfmoon,

This month, I'm waiting on results for WotF Q4, Superstars Scholarship, Asimov magazine, and an agent query. I peak into the forum for just a second to find you two ratcheting up the tension! Is this a suspense or a horror novel? Is this the dark night of my soul?

Wulf, we’re friends, right? I’m going to need some of that whisky and probably some of that pie I saw on your FB page.

Not that I'm expecting a call, but YIKES!
That is a lot of potential good news/rejectin to come raining down on my head all within one 2-4 week span.

To land even ONE of those things would be wonderful, Julia. As for the Superstars Scholarship, may the reference I wrote for you do its magic. It certainly worked for others here. Smile

I look forward to sharing a wee dram from my private stock with you when I see you at Superstars in February! I BELIEVE!
