I made a soft goal to have three offerings awaiting judgment at the same time. It helps me not worry about getting results and keeps me focused on getting more work done. I want the contest to be a step along the way, not a final destination.

That said, getting unknown callers around now makes me twitchy.

@babooher I like how you use the word 'offerings', it makes me think our stories are something we make to try to appease the gods for good harvest or something.

"This story pleases me mortal, here have some sweet corn" "No, this one would bore me to tears if i could cry. Here's a flood, hope you can swim."

Absolutely, Babooher! I get random numbers call my phone infrequently (ridiculously annoying). I try to check the area code if I can. Hard to do, though. When I get an important call for my writing one of these days, I hope I actually take it-or they leave a message.

I may have found the 'who' for one of my previous quotes. Reading an article by Orson Scott Card, he points out his belief that "writers are not competing with each other at all," and how "every good story encourages its audience to read more stories."

Again, a wonderful perspective. Thanks, Orson Scott Card!  toast

I don't get unknown callers with my new service. However, Scam Likely appears to be a friend of mine, now.

Twitches haven't visited me since a Q2 story was finally resolved in August one year.

@kent

Consider yourself fortunate, Prate. On a bad day, I might get 4 or 5 calls from spam numbers. Some even show up with only 1 or 2 digits difference from numbers I know. That's no accident. Dodginess!
I think it merits my writing a story about a phone scammer, just like Chaucer tells the two gambling duded in 'A Knight's Tale'.

They scammed my phone for a day. They shall be scammed for eternity!  fistinair

John Goodwin, President of ASI, is already posting pictures of the winners arriving in Hollywood. Be sure to follow @WOTFContest on FB for extra little peeps on top of the blog posts that they'll be putting out on their site.

Also, one of the winners (his story in Vol.37—The Plot Armor—is one of my favorites in the entire anthology!) has said he will be doing little blog posts on his author website about his week in Hollywood.
So, if you're like me and you enjoy absorbing all the inspiration from the winner's adventures, be sure to pop onto his site and read through. lukewildman.com -- or on his author FB page: @luke.a.wildman.writer

What sorcery is this! I wanted to give the story a look after two recommendations here, but volume 37 isn't even published yet.

I'm not sure of the requirements for getting an advance copy, but I was offered a chance to read an electronic copy of v37.

I read every word of the anthology, very good storytelling. sippincoffee

Oh, I'm sorry, I should have mentioned that. I  received an ARC, in exchange for leaving an honest review. There are some outstanding fantastic stories in Vol. 37 (as there are in all of them!), and I am wagering my guess at which story will win the Golden Pen! winking

I hope everyone has pre-ordered their copy of Volume 37 so you can get it shipped as soon as it's released. This is an awesome collection, ya'll! The first story alone—ahh—so good! ♥♥♥

@sinsyne

Same as Storysinger and Alicia, I got an ARC from galaxy Press. I'm buying the book anywho, but it was great to read the stories before they came out. There are some EXCELLENT stories in there. For any would-be-writers, it's a no brainer. Want to win this contest? The book shows you what they're after. More importantly, these stories are just delightful to read
Now that I've read them all, I look forward to giving it a short break. I'll probably go back and read a few of my favorites again.

@AliciaCay, we can't call out names/details as such, but I too have my favourite story. I wonder if it will get the golden pen?

I might check it out once released, right now I only have a hodgepodge of twelve previous volumes I snagged off ebay and a German used book seller. Pretty much their entire stock. I'm surprised how little presence Germany has in WotF, we're the third largest book market worldwide but there's like three people who place each quarter.

@storysinger That's my 3rd 1000th post. I keep getting pruned, then I hit 1000 again.

My first go at it was epic. Each subsequent milestone has been less interesting. Eventually I'll just post the poop emoji. 😎

Yeah, what’s up with that? I noticed on your first 1000 post when you were in for Q4 and then suddenly you were at 997 again. Have you been posting spam? Did Wulf have to talk to you about your questionable content?

Sooo ...

We're three weeks past the end of Q4. My impression is that results for a Qx historically post around a week or so after the end of the Qx+1 quarter. I know there's an on-going event, and the contest is epicPopular, but have any Q3 results posted yet? I'm running out of fingernails.

@joebenet Wulf indicated it would be a week or two after the Gala, which makes sense. My Q3 wasn't fully formed (I've finished it now, though, and am very pleased with the rewrite). So I'm looking forward rather than back.

Carry on, and keep writing, focusing on the craft. WotF isn't just a contest, it's a fount of resources and support. If I haven't said it before, thanks to all those who make it so!

Haha. This might get flagged.

Actually I was just about to hit 2000 posts on the old forum. They must prune due to age, or possibly a lack of content, like if I just post a smiley, which I probably have dozens of. So I'm back under 1k again. Ah well, keeps me motivated, I guess.
