Corbin,

I know that, dude. Or we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Without being a broken record, Hang in There!

At least you're not cold-calling production companies and getting hung up on because you can't attach an A-list actor to your project, or because you're not represented by the #1 elite agency in Hollywood and they can't take your call.

Best,

Retropianoplayer

Honestly, I don’t worry about that stuff. I worry about writing good paragraphs.

I ain't cut out to be no Jesse James.

The first response for this Q has been logged on TGDB. A 51-day wait, answered on August 17th.

It begins.

I think someone is probably just confused.

I woke up this morning and saw an email in my inbox the subject line "Congrats - Your story received Honorable Mention 2nd Quarter"

I thought Damn that was fast. Thought about it a minute and realized I was waiting on the THIRD Quarter results. Opened up the email and it was a reply from Joni telling me to look for my HM cert in a month or so and urging me to submit an entry this quarter.

At the Submission Grinder it looks like there was a 56 day rejection today. Maybe it’s not a mistake and results are starting to trickle out

Or, per Milo's logic.... ANOTHER mistake. 😉

Who can tell?

Either way, good luck and happiness to all~

Hmm. So perhaps someone gets an HM email from Joni and they mistakenly attribute it to their Q3 entry? Ya never know but seems to me that someone capable of getting a HM would realize which quarter Joni was emailing about. But it seems impossible that no one here is getting results and non-forumites are getting them. Maybe everyone here is getting at least an HM and, therefore, we aren't in the first wave. wotf011 wotf019

I suppose everyone here regularly reads Wulf's Super Secret thread. Just in case you don't, he said he spoke to Joni and the results for Q3 will "be a while" yet. The reports on Grinder and Duotrope are not Q3 results--none have gone out.

Given how long the last quarter took, I suspect we're looking at October for results. Q4 is the fastest, because they need to get things sorted for the awards ceremony and book printing, but given how fast the contest is growing, I think we need to adjust our twitch times back 4-6 weeks. Send your other stories out to pro markets! I twitch a whole lot less when I'm waiting on half a dozen results instead of just one or two.

I'd start twitching in two weeks, but most likely it will be three weeks from now if the WotF world spins properly. I can say this--more entries than any quarter before in the history of this contest in Q3! And overall quality is higher than any quarter before as well. You can tell that's the case just by looking at all the Silver HMs they had to give out in Q2. Good writers realize this contest has the best rewards! And did you see all the foreign countries on the Q2 announcement? It just means the word is out around the world. Writers of the Future is the place to go for new writers to be discovered.

Now, ignore everything I just said and go put your heart and soul into your Q4. It's the way you win!

Cheers!

Indeed, but I've noticed it usually takes longer than she expects. Still might be best to anticipate October.

Ha! Ha! For those of you who subscribe to Dave's writing tips email, today's update is great:

"When my daughter Danielle was twelve, she came home from school one day and asked tearfully, “Are you a drug dealer?” I told her no. She knew I was a writer. But she said, “Well, that’s what everyone says.” Apparently my new neighbors felt that I had no visible means of support, that I spent too much time sun-bathing in the middle of the day (usually by 2:00 P.M. I’m ready for a break), and that I wasn’t smart enough to be a hedge-fund manager"

For what it's worth, Dave Farland had the following snippet in his 8/30 "Tips" email: "scurrying to finish up judging on a large contest."

I think that qualifies as a peep. In past quarters, I'd have guessed that meant results within a week or two. Now I think it means within a month or so. But here's hoping for a quick quarter!

To be honest, my Q3 entry is off the radar for me as I'm sure it will fail based on reading the forum and listening to the podcasts...when I read 'middle school and up', I thought that anything other than children stories were ok to enter...nothing crazy in the story, but I don't think schools would like it 😐 ... so ... "help me quarter 4, you're my only hope"

I am fretting over Q4 so I haven't been able to twitch as I should for Q3. I need to get this story done so I can get into the pillow fort to wait for the Q3 fallout when it happens. Although my Q3 was the shortest short story I have ever written. I'm afraid it is too short to stand a real chance, but maybe I could eek out a HM.

I'm twitching over here! And trying not to count typos, ha. I don't understand how I can read it numerous times before submitting and not see them... one of life's great mysteries....

How short was it*? My HM was under 1,400 words and has quite a dark ending (even though the PoV found what they were looking for). When I submitted, I thought it was my story least likely to get a HM.

*The word count isn't a big enough clue for any judges that might see this is it?
