I am getting a distinct sense of things lost in translation here. Oh well. Thursdays, amirite?

Welcome to the forum John Mabey. You're learning about our Thursday fixation, wait until you hear about the way we all twitch at the mention of results being posted.

I am reasonably confident that the origins of the Thursday fixation were lost in the server move. And if somehow they weren’t, I’ll claim that the statute of limitations has elapsed!

I believe Kitty is responsible for that fixation. Chocolate-crazed rambling in the middle of the night... Those were the days!

Then Saturday seeing Thursday dead, drew a small caliber pistol and shot Friday in the back of the head. When the other days gathered to look upon their dead friends they eyed one another in question as to what doom had brought these ends. All remained silent. None to confess these deaths, these tragedies, these comrades murdered and those who were innocent never knew by whom. The calendar now shattered. And Saturday in his languid weekend hours plied his cups and seemed much satisfied with the world, as if he’d bargained with God for the destruction of it.

@cweaver I was looking for the same thing.  I somehow deleted/lost my submission email and other than a copy of my story on my computer marked for WoTF, I don't have any proof I submitted. We can't ask, because that may attached our name to the story and then disqualify us.

A submission number or something for cross reference maybe?

Good suggestion for the future.

Hello @toddjones

When you log back into your submission portal you will see gray boxes with your earlier submissions and can open and click on these and it should show you the story. You can't edit them, but you can see your submission. They have a cycle number and date when they were submitted. I checked your submissions you should see the following in our updated system (We were not able to carry over the earlier submissions):

2022-01-19 0928 -0800 - 39B

2021-12-20 1157 -0800 - 39A

2021-08-17 0742 -0700 - 38D

The ending numbers are the cycles, so your last successful submission was 39B, which is Volume 39, 2nd Quarter. (A 1st Q, B 2nd Q, C 3rd Q and D 4th Q)

The current active quarter is 39C, which you have to still get a story in before the end of the month!!!

Hope this helps and let me know if you need anything.

Best, Jason

Since I'm embedded in Q3 editing, I haven't started twitching.

@craydimensional That’s great! I’m not twitching either; I’m violently convulsing 😆 This eye twitch, man. It will not go away! 😂

No twitching! All the energy must be channeled into my paintbrush! Q3 story is in but I’m running late on my illustrators submission. I spent quite a bit of time and energy curating an art show this month and finishing art for that so finishing this new piece for IOTF is going to be a close call.

I wonder how they're coming along on the Q2 reading/judging? I think we'll start hearing back sometime in July, but I still wonder...

I would just like to point out that tomorrow is the last Thursday in June and next week is the first Thursday in July 🫣

Are these possibly important Thursdays for 2nd quarter? Only the Shadow knows…and Kary English

My prediction for Q2 results is a Thursday in mid August... 18th? MAYBE the 11th? At any rate I hope I can NOT twitch so much this time. And I hope the automated notification system has been debugged such that Joni's job will be easier.

Speaking of Joni, I got a nice email (personalized with name and title) yesterday reminding those of us who got RWC (although it may should be RWN see below. Notes seems more accurate than comments):

"I just wanted to personally reach out to you and urge you to enter this quarter as one of the writers who got "rejected with notes" for the first quarter. This is better than a straight rejection and our judges considered that the story has potential!

Did you figure out which category your story fit into? I really want to know if this helped you or not." -Joni Contest Director

In answer to her question, I THINK I figured out the reason why it didn't place higher and will perhaps rework it for the contest. It's nice to read that a story I wrote has potential. And yes, the list of comments sent to us is quite helpful. My goal for Q1 was to do better than an R, and you can say I DID do that. However, I had no idea at the time new categories of R would be constructed. My guess is I didn't get to the speculative element quick enough and I will say that's pretty tough to do if one attempts to write a portal fiction piece which I have a fondness for (e.g. CS Lewis Lion Witch Wardrobe is one of my all time favorites and is the reason why I attempt to write portal fiction).

My Q3 story is a new one. Fingers crossed it and my Q2 story get past the RWC category, 😉

As for my Q4 story, I have not put together a plan for it at all and at this point could be anything my imagination can come up with.

WOTF results:
Vol 31: Q3 R; Vol 33: Q3 R; Vol 35: Q4 R; Vol 37: Q3 R, Q4 R; Vol 38: Q3 R; Vol 39: Q1 RWC, Q2 P, Q3 P
IOTF results:
Vol 39: Q1 HM, Q2 P, Q3 P
According to Winston Churchill, "success is going from failure to failure with enthusiasm"
Somehow I lost my Guthington profile, but it's me. Amy Wethington = Guthington = Physa42. Physa is the freshwater snail I did my graduate and post graduate work on, 🙂
