I managed to send the text with only a few hours remained to spare. The story could be in better shape; but who is ever satisfied with the result? wotf001

JV Ashley, what genre is your novel in which you're editing?

Has anyone heard of or from Girl In The Glasses? I hope she is healthy and doing well, and her family is well.

I recently learned the ONLY advantage to being a senior citizen – they let you in an hour before everyone else at Super Fry's when you're grocery shopping or waiting at Target for cleaning wipes.

Best,

Retro

Retro: The Girl in the Glasses, two times Finalist Brittany Rainsdon, is doing well. Like so many, she is caring for a house full of children now. And yet she got her story in for Q2, and it's a good one. Watch out, all! Smile

Thomas Woodward: Glad to see you got your story in, and it was so good to meet you at Superstars!

And to all of you, congratulations on getting your stories in. This was a tough time for the WORLD, and it could have been easy to get distracted. You kept your eye on the prize. May your hard work pay off!

All the beast!

Wulf, I'm glad to hear she is healthy and doing well, as is her family. Thank you for your swift response to my inquiry. I still haven't forgotten I bet on her to win based on her numerous Finalist awards.
My bet still stands and I hope I'm proved right.

Best,

Retro

Hey, everyone! Not sure if I’m supposed to be discussing stuff like this on the Q2 discussion thread, but well.... I didn’t see any capitalized sentences in the winning stories, so I’m wondering if I should stick with my plan.

Also, I try to avoid using abbreviations like didn’t or couldn’t in my narrating parts, but every single story in the anthology (35) had abbreviations in narrating parts, which makes me unsure if I should use them

Hi Hermione,

I don't think your supposed to post anything by which your story can be recognised - so I suggest editing out after the ellipsis

If the question is for a Q2 submission - well your entry is in now, so can't change it. If it's for a story to be subbed to Q3, then I suggest a few words or sentence in capitals are fine, if you have many it might start to get irritating or look like a story for kids.

As for abbreviations like didn't - if every winning story used them, then it seems reasonable you should.

I recommend not using any print tricks for emphasis beyond italics.
Rarely, and probably only once per story do you see something like BAM or CRUNCH at most.
Never !!! It's just not proper grammar. Like I used to say to my middle school bullies: use your words.

Let's hope it is brief. The powers say there will be a delay. Is that a delay similar to last year or a more delayed delay?

wotf042 First of all, cheers to Kate Julicher for her win in Q1! I'm hopeful one of us will be posting the blue sign this quarter as well.

I was just wondering out loud, it took 4 months (which I know is much longer than usual) for the winners to be announced last quarter. I would assume it would take the judges till mid summer to complete judging this round, although I saw in our Apex Facebook posts that Dave said this quarter had a very low turnout.

Maybe that will help?

If you take a look at the quarterly results section you can see when results came in for each quarter in the past. In 2018 for quarter one, they started coming in on the 16 of April. In 2019, they came on April 18, and this year was the 21, so not a huge delay from what is typical at all.

For quarter 2, last years results came July 22, the year before that was June 26. That's a lot more variation! But Wulf Moon just posted today that first reader Kari English is just getting going on the reading, so July maybe?

Kizer: Q2 did have a low turnout--until the final day of the quarter. Then, entries shot through the roof. Last I heard from John, the quarter at least equaled, if not exceeded the previous year.

Seems many worked on their stories until the very end. Or got distracted at first by COVID-19 quarantine, but recovered their groove and got a story in at the end.

Best of success to all that entered!

So I did a bit of calculating and here are my results:
2020 Jan 8th—V36 Q4 results officially announced
2020 April 21st V37 Q1 results respectively notified
2020 April 30th V37 Q1 results officially announced

So it took 112 days (three months and 22 days) (April 30 - Jan 8th) for the Q1 results to be announced.
I'd be expecting results on the second week of August, or probably after the gala

There are a lot of good entries in Q2. I've gotten to read a few of them. I'm not as hopeful about my own chances as I was when I sent my Q2 in, but I can definitely second your hopes on the matter. wotf007

Hmm, Been off the site for months because I needed a new password but I couldn't get a note from the forum-tried four times over a few weeks- and finally sent a request for help twice. I was told they couldn't get in touch with their IT person and it would be best for me to sign up under another E-mail address. I waited for a couple of days to see if the IT person would show up be they didn't. I kept thinking I needed to sign up as a new member but couldn't think of it while online. Anyway the IT person contacted me today. The site's auto reply wasn't functioning and he gave me a new password that worked.

Anyway. I am now a little confused of where we are in Q2. I got a rejection for Q1 and have a story for Q3 which I will send in when I am done here, but as I said where are we in Q2? I thought I recalled getting a rejection for two but can only find one for Q1

Thanks. Old age maybe, but this is the second or third time that I got mixed up on which quarter had sent out rejections-rejections for me anyway. Maybe not enough time here commenting.

Timeframes have been running on the longer side with a lot of quarters, lately (with the exception of Q4, of course).
