Man, this forum rocks. Four finalists from one quarter is unbelievable.

Fingers crossed for a sweep of three prizes, and a PF for the one left without a win.

Hoping for a swift judging process, as I am absolutely not functioning right now...

finalist

I’ve been entering this contest for 4 years now...3 rejections...6 honorable mentions... 2 silvers... 1 semi finalist... and now 4 finalists. Four. FOUR!!! I can hardly believe it. I’m incredibly happy and also sick with anxiety as this ride gives me whiplash. Hoping for a short wait. Thursday? Friday? What am I thinking. Everyday is Thursday! I may puke lol.

Congratulations Becky, DoctorJest, and Valiant! May we ride this roller coaster all the way to HoLlYwOoD!

salute

And Congrats to all those that entered! This forum has had a fan-freakin-tactic showing!

Have a fabulous Monday!!!

We've had three forum finalists before, but (at least in the time I've been here) I don't remember having four in one quarter before. You guys are absolutely amazing!

Congratulations to the finalists! And to all those who’ve had their efforts recognized.
You know what, congrats to those that are absorbing Rs as well. I’m jealous you’ve had your existence acknowledged and get to move on. I still haven’t heard and have moved from anger to bargaining and am nearing acceptance.

I tried not to be a complete grouch all weekend but ended up kicking the dirt a lot like the only kid in line not to get an ice cream cone.

I know it's hard, but give it some time. If finalists announce their results (as in, whether they placed or not) and you still haven't heard, that's a good time to e-mail Joni.

Wonderful. Gag orders are off, they've all announced now. I've been waiting. Where's my EVIL GRIN Smiley? This will have to do:

BRILLIANT WORK, WRITERS OF THE FUTURE FORUM!!!! FOUR, COUNT THEM, FOUR FINALISTS!

LIGHT UP THE MARQUEE!

1. REBECCA TREASURE! (AKA RE Treasure)

2. ROBERT LUKE WILKINS! (AKA DoctorJest)

3. THOMAS TAPPER (AKA Valiant)

4. BRITTANY PERRY RAINSDON! (AKA thegirlintheglasses)

This is a first in the history of this Contest. NEVER has the Forum produced four Finalists before. I've never heard of it. What an excellent way to kick off our BRAND NEW WRITERS AND ILLUSTRATORS OF THE FUTURE FORUM!!!

As the Writers of the Future representative in here, I congratulate each and every one of you. It is an amazing achievement. Miraculous, even. Out of the thousands entering this quarter, in the biggest talent search for new writers from around the world, your writing placed in the Top 8. You reached the pinnacle of the honor tiers in this Contest, and have proven that your writing is worthy of appearing in L. Ron Hubbard's Writers of the Future Vol. 38 bestselling anthology. Be proud of this stellar achievement! It's true. NYT bestselling author and coordinating judge David Farland judged your writing to be of the professional caliber necessary to win this contest and receive a publishing contract. Any one of your stories would indeed be worthy of being published in those illustrious anthology pages!

Alas, only three can be chosen from each quarter, or else the anthology would be a TOME. But rest assured, each of you have achieved the highest honor you can accomplish on your own in this world-renowned Contest.

I wish each of you the best of success in the final round of judging. I know what it's like to wait for results, but I don't believe your wait will be long. And whether you are chosen to be in the anthology with all its respective rewards or not, rest assured, YOU ARE EACH WINNERS!

In behalf of the Contest, you have our sincerest commendations and CONGRATULATIONS!

@wulfmoon Thanks Wulf! I'll see about sending it to an editor. It's already at BCS, though they give personal rejections.

And (@henckel) congratulations! Hitting so close to the bullseye twice in a row is amazing. It's only a matter of time...

Also, question: Is it taboo to talk about finalists? Anyone know when the judging will be finished?

Reuben, you can't talk about Finalists right now because a judge could figure out the author of the work--they do come by here. We just had Tim Powers visit for an AMA, and he could be reading their stories right now. It normally takes two weeks, although little birdies tell me this one will be fast, they are pushing for results by the end of the month.

Patience is a virtue, and good things come to those who wait. Fortunately, they made a sign for just such moments as this:

waiting

All the beast!

So cool, MarathonCoder! What a great first showing! Keep it up! And WELCOME TO THE FORUM!

silverhm This was everything I was hoping for! (Okay, maybe I wanted a semifinalist. I can't fool you guys.) Thank you everyone here! In specific, thank you Wulf for the Heart's Desire tip, and the other supersecrets, thank you Dustin for all your time and advice, especially that bit from KD Julicher (thank you Kate!) about tough decisions, and Matt Dovey's link on conflict (which is here). Thank you Troy (Shockhawk) and all my other critiquers. And thank you Becky, who has probably done more for my writing than anyone/anything else.

Speaking of which, I count at least two regulars who haven't reported yet *cough cough cough*. May the best forumite win! popcorn

Hey Reuben,

Very excited to see this! The work you put in is evident, and I said this in an e-mail (or PM) but I've definitely seen an improvement in your writing from that first 450 you sent me a while back.

I think V.38 is going to rock. We have two more chances to write something awesome and get in there!

I have a question... (newbie here). I submitted a story for the 1st Qtr, 2021 and just got an email from Joni Labaqui stating that I was an honorable mention. Is there a listing somewhere that shows the HM's? Thanks so much.

@jdw4lrhwriters

Hey J.D. congratulations on your honorable mention! You may have come to just ask your question, but I do recommend you to stick around. It will help you to win.

A list does go out will all the names, but only after the winners are announced (a week, maybe?). I needn't tell you this, but don't focus so much on how many people got HMs--usually it's a few hundred. It's impossible not to think about it, of course, but still keep in mind that the focus is writing a good story. It doesn't matter how many other people are entering.

@reuben Thanks for reply. Yes, I did see a previous list where there were hundreds of HM's... Regardless, I still appreciate the acknowledgment. And I will stick around. I'm working on a story now for the 2nd Q. I do have three self-published books out and working on a fourth (on Amazon and my website), and from what I understand, that is okay with the contest rules--as long as I've no professionally published works (which I don't). Thanks again.
