Writers of the Future is monitoring the current scene of the pandemic and has decided to push the annual event and the book release of L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 37 to the fall of 2021.

I feel so bad for everyone, but especially the winners from last year who have waited so long for their workshop, the winners from this year who will have to wait for the their book, and all the folks at Galaxy Press who have had to scramble and reschedule and juggle this whole time. Stinks.

As one of the v37 winners I have been expecting this (because of the state of the world) and I'm honestly happy, as long as we really do get to go in the fall. I'm extra glad they've delayed the book to coincide with the workshop, for several reasons but mostly for the art reveal. There were going to be people who couldn't attend in April. Now, hopefully, we will get to have the biggest WOTF party of all time this fall!

It should be grand! And they really had no choice. I talked to John about it recently when we were setting up for the podcast. With the governor's restrictions over any gathering place in LA, there was no way to hold it. As more and more get vaccinated and the restrictions over gatherings lift, an event in the Fall does appear to be a reality. John told me they are looking at September, but as you see, they've set no dates because the situation is so fluid right now. Count on Fall, whatever that will mean.
Whatever date it will be held, it is sure to be grand! And a relief to have some sense of normalcy again!

As a v36 winner, I am also super relieved it was delayed. I just wanted everyone to be able to attend, and there are just too many restrictions right now, especially internationally. We've got folks coming from Australia, Turkey, the UK, and more, and, well...if I was in Australia, where they're getting about 5 cases a month, I wouldn't want to come to the US for just about anything right now 😉
KD, I thought the same thing about the art reveal. They really put together an excellent virtual reveal for the v36 folks, but I'm absolutely thrilled you guys get the in person one. I feel like postponing the book was a good decision even if it's disappointing for some folks right now.

That was the other issue John talked to me about, Leah. There are so many international travel restrictions right now, there is no way to get some of the winners in other countries to the event! Let’s hope stability returns by Fall, and we can all celebrate together at the gala, or virtually through the live broadcast for the rest of the Contest’s supporters.
