My alternate history novel about the fire in the Great Library of Alexandria is now available in audiobook.
The greatest mystery of the ancient world remains the identity of whoever set fire to the Great Library in Alexandria.
One hundred years later, Heron of Alexandria - the city's most renowned inventor and creator of Temple miracles - receives coin from a mysterious patron to investigate the crime. Desperate to be free of the debts incurred by her twin brother, she accepts and sets in motion a chain of events that will shake the Roman Empire and change the course of history forever.

I've got a new novel up. Something a bit different:
Linky linky?
(Yes, I can find it on Amazon myself, pseudonym or not; but it's the principle of the thing! When you promote, you want to make purchasing take as close to zero effort as possible.)
Here's the Amazon link:
http://www.amazon.com/German-Summer-ebo ... tta+bouman
And the discription:
Beth never imagined she would live to see sixteen, much less fall in love. Beaten and abused by her father, a World War II veteran, in 1960 rural Oklahoma, her future is grim. Her mother is already dead and her older brother, Jeff, is the only one who looks after her. But with a life and plans of his own, he can't always be there to help.
Until the mysterious and dreamy Tilo, a German immigrant, walks into her life. A truck driver for an employer he'd rather not name, with cargo he'd rather not know about, he seems to be just what Beth needs. But a man with his own troubled past.
Can they overcome their pasts and live for the future or will it catch up with them and destroy them before they discover how they really feel?
Sorry. It's been a crazy week. I haven't gotten much writing done and my brain is a bit scrambled. I need to regroup.

Here's a reimagined cover for The Cageless Zoo and another cover for a new story The Lorieme Job. My wife, Rachel, the cover designer, did a bang-up job on both. I wrote more about it on my blog, including a shot of the old Cageless Zoo cover.

Here's a recent cover I did for the upcoming "INDIANA SCIENCE FICTION 2012" anthology ...
Playing around with Photoshop from "borrowed" elements (aw c'mon now, nobody "owns" the Moon ... yet! ) Ok, and the cosmonaut femme is a local model I shot though (can't steal someone's face sans permission, obviously) and the octopus I guess I could've brought home in a doggy bag from the sushi buffet we went to ... but didn't. They say octopus can count to ten, so eating them is definitely an ethical no. Plus, well ... it'd be eating a freakin' octopus!

I think we're down to just tuna at this point:
We declare the following: “The absence of a neocortex does not appear to preclude an organism from experiencing affective states. Convergent evidence indicates that non-human animals have the neuroanatomical, neurochemical, and neurophysiological substrates of conscious states along with the capacity to exhibit intentional behaviors. Consequently, the weight of evidence indicates that humans are not unique in possessing the neurological substrates that generate consciousness. Nonhuman animals, including all mammals and birds, and many other creatures, including octopuses, also possess these neurological substrates.”
Mmmm soy and peanut butter. Your ethical-protein-alternative-ness beckons.

I'm pretty sure octopi can only count to eight. 😉

Annnd today I can add my own little book to these pages! Captive by the Fog, published by Musa Publishing, was released today!
In order to survive, a prisoner must confront the darkness or crumble with the world around her.
Sam is caught in a life she can’t escape as the caretaker for her terminally ill homophobic father, but what she wants more than anything is to find the courage to escape and live her own life.
One fog-filled evening, Sam, her father, and a group of strangers are captured by beings from another world. Held prisoner by this mysterious race, the band struggles to hold on to the hope of freedom.
As Sam finds herself unexpectedly falling into a leadership role, she also falls for the shy smile of fellow prisoner Kisana. But as freedom continues to slip beyond the reach of their prison, the group must find the strength to carry on, maintain their humanity, and most of all—survive.

And here we go! Check out my new military SF novella, TIME SKIFF, up at Smashwords and Amazon for $1.99. I really had fun doing the cover art for this ebook. The type of illustration I do is similar to Cliff Nielsen's art, however, I don't use models--although I do use references. I call 'em my "Frankensteins:" completely collaged together people--hair, jaw structure, eyes nose, mouth, ears, makeup, outfit, you name it. The blending is the key. And they do look like real people (technically they ARE, in my novella, that is). I actually do more painting in these multi-media-collage pieces than straight acrylics! And if you like the cover art, the story is even better! This one was an Honorable Mention in WotF ^_^:
BOOK DESCRIPTION: When Aethereal Trackers infiltrate a battle group in the 17 Corporate Galaxies' Interstellar Armada, two generals—framed for war crimes by enemy agents—jump ship and hide out in the planetary rings of Da'ath Major, while they come to terms with what's "really" in their past.
By Writers and Illustrators of the Future author/illustrator award winner, M. O. Muriel. Story, cover art, and internal illustrations by M. O. Muriel.
If you're a fan of Chronicles of Riddick PITCH BLACK, the tone, characters, and their dynamics in TIME SKIFF are similar. I actually wrote this novella a month before I saw PITCH BLACK on TV for the first time, and when I did I was like--WTF!--I can totally see Vin Diesel doing a voice over for my character, Nexer! Great minds think alike, lol. I thought it was so serendipitous, in fact that, in honor of the characters' similarities, heh, I snitched the pulsing vein in Vin Diesel's brow off a movie still from PITCH BLACK, and added it to Nexer's forehead in the cover art (yes, that is Vin Diesel's brow vein, lol!!!).

Thanks, Amanda, Martin, and Morshana . Indeed, I want my "people" to look as real as possible. Muhaha, so now you know my secret: they aren't models with painterly filters on them; they are literally hundreds of little pieces of images and textures--and more digital airbrushing, blending, shadowing, and straight paining than I use even on a pure acrylics piece.
Little task for you: If you zoom in real close on Nexer's face for example (the guy character), then you'll begin to see "the collage," heh. Basically, these "people" only exist in the universe of my novella.
Anyway, this is my favorite HM from WotF. Seriously thought it was going to place Finalist, but it still reads a tad too much like it could be an entire novel than I'm sure other entries to the contest were . . . which means . . . I do have plans to expand this story into not only 1 novel, but four! This TIME SKIFF novella acts as a teaser to the universe. I had a lot of fun with this story.

Hello friends and potential fans! I'm a retired Army vet with a passion for writing. My first book: Armies of the Silver Mage is getting published soon but you can find it on Nook and Kindle. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00514HCBU and http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/armies- ... 0012451484
Malweir was once governed by the order of Mages, bringers of peace and light. Centuries past and the lands prospered. But all was not well. Unknown to most, one mage desired power above all else. He turned his will to the banished Dark Gods and brought war to the free lands. Only a handful of mages survived the betrayal and the Silver Mage was left free to twist the darker races to his bidding. The only thing he needs to complete his plan and rule the world forever are the four shards of the crystal of Tol Shere.
Having spent most of their lives dreaming about leaving their sleepy village and travelling the world, Delin Kerny and Fennic Attleford never thought that one day they would be forced to flee their town in order to save their lives. Everything changes when they discover the fabled Star Silver sword and learn that there are some who want the weapon for themselves. Hunted by a ruthless mercenary, the boys run from Fel Darrins and are forced into the adventure they only dreamed about.
Ever ashamed of the horrors his kind let loose on the world the last mage, Dakeb, lives his life in shadows. The only thing keeping him alive is his quest to stop the Silver Mage from reassembling the crystal. His chance finally comes through the hearts and wills of Delin and Fennic. Dakeb bestows upon them the crystal shard, entrusting them with the one thing capable of restoring peace to Malweir.
