Thanks. To be honest, I've never been entirely convinced the grammar is quite right on that last line. But it just sounds better to me that way, and I've always taken the view that with writing you should go with what sounds right to you rather than what is technically right. On the grounds that sometimes what is technically wrong is in fact better. So I've tried not to worry about it too much. Having said that, if an editor wanted to change it, in such a circumstance I can't see myself arguing with them.

Yes, this! I feel that way about grammar, too. You go with what feels right.

And congrats! I'm still chuckling over this story. It is so, so Gator! wotf001

Did somebody say "grammar"? wotf001

I blinked my heavy, alligator eyes. Chicken, I said. And I would have grinned at her, but then I remembered—I already was.

Implied in the second sentence is "grinning at her." Technically grammatical I think, although the mind tends to try and fill in "I already was grinned at her," which is weird.

Anyway: it's clear what the meaning is and that's what matters.

Nicely done, Elinor and/or Gator! And nice continued selling-of-things, Preston!

No success for me, yet, but my submission to Tor has been unresolved for a long while, and during that time many, many other rejections have been dealt, for submissions younger and fresher than mine. This makes me suspect (read: hope) that mine might have got past the first line of fire. Either that, or it's been lost in the slush pile and forgotten wotf017

I've announced this elsewhere already, so:

Very pleased to announce that a story of mine will be appearing in a future issue of Galaxy's Edge. This is basically my first non-flash pro sale, so I'm excited! (I believe I got an HM with it in the contest last December.)

I also had a sale to DSF for a second person piece of flash fiction back in late July. I wanted to wait until I had the contract in hand, but it seems silly to announce things out of order.

In other news, my wife and I just successfully bought a house. Whee!

Congrats, HL Fullerton. Cover story, I see. Very nice. Now that's a nice touch for your third Penumbra sale. And congrats, Strycher. Good to hear that your HM sold. That's validation for you. The story earned an HM and now it's earning you $$$ and more importantly, readers! I just final rounded with those guys. Alas, no sale. Write on!
