lol.
Anyway, really excited to read it.
My 5th pro sale is in the works. Editor requests I keep the details quiet until he gives me the all-clear to go fully public. Major on-line market. I am very excited.
Congrats!
Awesome-possum! (is that a valid exclamation of congrats?).

Something over on http://clarkesworldmagazine.com looks oddly familiar...
Oh, yeah -- that's 'cuz I wrote it!
I just had to point out that you are one of twelve annual submissions in about 5,000 that made the grade at Clarkesworld.
Yes, this is my formal request that you drink a bottle of champagne on my behalf. If I still lived in Durham, I'd come toast you!

Clarkesworld is a tough, respected market. Well done.
Coming up: "Life Flight," in
Coming up: "The Chaplain's War," from
Nebula, Hugo, and Campbell nominee.
Hey Patty - I just saw you on the TOC for the Anywhere But Earth antho. I have a story there, too. It was accepted months and months ago - seems like I've been waiting forever - and there is still near on a year until it's published.
I also made it into Anywhere but Earth. (with a WOTF reject - slightly rewritten, though)
Keith Stevenson is well respected in small press. His last anthology, X6, has won a number of awards around the world.
There are at least three of us here that are on the TOC (Dame, Patty and myself) and at least two WOTF winners (Patty and Cat Sparks) - along with names such as Rob Hood, Alan Baxter and so on.
An excellent anthology to be part of. I know I'm thrilled.

I seem to have made it onto Ellen Datlow's Year's Best Horror honourable mention list with my story Little Boy Lost from Midnight Echo 4.
Now, you all know that I don't write horror...

My story for Anywhere But Earth was an ex-HM, which also earned me the only-ever personal rejection I've ever gotten from Clarkesworld.

Just sold a story to Arcane magazine, a new semiprozine.
I submitted there because the story has a bit of a Lovecraftian feel, which seems to fit their guidelines. What I didn't realize when I submitted is that the editor was previously editor of Arkham Tales and rejected the same story last year. The story didn't get any better in the interim, so I'm thinking the difference just might be that addition of "winner of the Writers of the Future Contest" to the cover letter.

Congratulations!
Though putting the "winner" in your cover letter doesn't hurt, I also wouldn't rule out the fact that it might just fit better with the new magazine, or have been grudgingly eliminated from the previous magazine based on other factors beyond whether or not the editor loved the story. It's impossible to tell.
Congratulations, vanaaron!

Someone mentioned me somewhere, once. But, it wasn't here. And, it wasn't honorable. (A.K.A. 2x Rejections.)

Congratulations, vanaaron! Is it William Goldman (Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid etc) has the famous quote about screenwriting in Hollywood: "Nobody knows anything" ??? like you said, the STORY didn't magically change, so that shows YOU were on target the first time (and already) ... it was the situation that altered. We kick ourselves or our writing for "success" or "failure" ... when it can be the failure of something somewhere else!
The tentacles of Cthulhu are myriad and mysterious, their confusion to interweave.

Ah, and also it's possible the editor never laid eyes on your manuscript the first time. Really, we're more at the mercy of slush readers than anyone. They decide if the big wigs get to see the story or not (though, to be honest, I'm not familiar with the particular vetting process of Arkham Tales. It's possible no first readers were involved). So, perhaps he never got to read your awesome story before. (don't know if that calls for a happy or frowny face...hmmm...)
