Would love to hear from folks farther down this path than I am about what to do in this situation.

Last May I received notice that one of my stories was scheduled to be published in a particular webzine issue.   Yay, I'd been accepted!  I took the story out of circulation, told everyone, and waited.  A month ago I saw on their site that the issue in question was being worked on, and I wondered if it was odd that I hadn't heard anything.

I just got an email stating my story was in consideration for the following issue and is it still available?

I'm kind of annoyed, but I have yet to be published, so I understand I have to put up with more than a writer with more success would.  What would other folks do?

  1. Say nothing and hope they take it so I have one under my belt.
  2. Ask what happened and risk losing it.
  3. Pull it and hope it catches on elsewhere since it had only been rejected by one other publication prior to acceptance.

I am pathologically patient. I also understand that production schedules change. Analog has bounced one of my stories around twice before finally publishing it. Conversely, Clarkesworld once rearranged their production schedule to put "Today I Am Paul" in their next issue.

I think you should leave the story there, and count it as a tentative win.

Thanks @martin-l-shoemaker for your advice and listening to me vent.  That's what I'm going to do.  The maddening thing for me is in the ten months between my story status dropping from acceptance to consideration I might have found another home for it.
