I’ve been subbing to WotF since 2015. My first stories to receive recognition were winners of university contests, one at Linn Benton Community College (2000) and the other 3rd place in the University of Oregon KIDD contest (2015). The KIDD program with my related thesis work on a English-Japanese collection of stories, as well as some other writing classes, such as one from Ehud Havazelet, really helped me bring together a wealth of travel writing into polished creative work I still draw on today. After that 3rd place winner, I moved to Japan and got busy with lots of various work, and seldom wrote, though I still wrote some scene fragments and poetry. Finally got involved with the Eugene Writers Anonymous which pushed my writing and I started working harder on short stories and novels. After subbing every quarter from the end of 2015 to the end of 2017 (snagging four HMs), I took a year off to deal with some significant real life troubles. I starting subbing regularly again from 2019, though at first with rejections. I joined Wulf Moon’s challenge group in the Fall of 2019 also started to send my stories out more regularly to other publications. In 2020, I made the goal of 100 rejections in order to spur on increased output alongside my increasing quality of writing. I made nearly 150 submissions by the end of 2020, with one flash fiction piece published on the Weird Christmas podcast with my reading of it, as well as some personal rejections (from Clarkesworld, Fantasy, etc.) and two HMs from WotF. I also started to post my long list of submission deadlines and windows on my blog, which I highly recommend as a resource for my fellow writers In 2021, I have continued my high number of submissions. I also joined Wulf Moon’s Top Gun challenge group and, shortly after that, received the news that my Q1 story received SHM. I also have received interest from an editor who will work with me to revise and publish my short story for a high quality magazine of which further details will be reported in the Summer/Fall.
