We have a place to discuss and track quarter 3 illustration now! A little late but we still have quite a bit of the quarter left.

I started 2 new illustrations last night. One is in the sketching phase and the other is just an inspired thumbnail. I will likely sketch them both before painting as that worked beautifully last quarter. It decreased the thought and effort required to start a second illustration right after finishing the previous one.

What about you fellow illustrators? Have you started new pieces for this quarter or do you have other plans?

I have my first piece for Q3 in almost through the detailed sketch phase(for a watercolor in my style this forms the bones of the painting and must by lightly drawn but accurate without stray lines)

I'm thinking I’ll only do one new piece for this quarter because I chose to go a bit larger with this one and I have some other types of paintings I need to do for an art show I’m curating in June.

That and I have some big writing goals for this quarter as well.

But the recommendation is to switch out one piece for a new one each quarter anyway. Last quarter I switched out two because I felt like switching things up more.

I finished my third piece today. I'm submitted for Q3 (IoTF). Still need to work on and submit for Q3 WoTF.

WOTF results:
Vol 41: Q1 HM, Q2 P
running totals to date:
WOTF: 6 Rs, 3 RWCs. 6 HMs
IOTF: 3 Rs, 3 HMs

Somehow I lost my Guthington profile, but it's me. Amy Wethington = Guthington = Physa

Hey fellow illustrators! Personally I’m in a bit of a Q3 submission predicament, and maybe some seasoned advise would be welcomed. I was fortunate to make finalist V39 Q1 and was overjoyed, but obviously I didn’t know this during Q2 submission period and created 3 all new pieces for it. Without knowing if my Q2 submissions will receive the same acknowledgment I’m now tempted to re-submit some (one/ two) of my Q1 pieces for Q3. Is it recommended to go with two re-submits and one new piece? I have created two new pieces for Q3 but I could just use one of them this time round. And then the dreaded question  “which ones?” Any thoughts?

V39 Q1: IOTF Finalist
V39 Q2: IOTF Semi-Finalist
V39 Q3: IOTF Semi-Finalist
V39 Q4: Winner

Hey Chris, Congrats on your finalist in Q1! Theoretically I received an HM (but not on the list posted on the blog, but I can get a certificate mailed to me). This is the first time I've submitted to IOTF as well and am still trying to figure out how to prepare files with the correct resolution and size range (so I'm not that upset about my Q1 result, my files weren't in the correct resolution range for starters). I don't know how to answer your question. It's a great one and I can fully appreciate the dilemma. I just submitted a Q3 entry yesterday. What I did was add color and resolution to one of my Q1 pieces, fixed elements of one of my Q2 pieces, and submitted a whole new painting. It won't be until July or so before Q2 results are known so you'll have to go with your gut for what to submit for your Q3 I guess. You can't post your pictures on the forum for others to vote, but I suppose you could send files privately to others for advice. Perhaps @clfors will offer some good advice. She's been submitting to IOTF for a while looks like.

@cbinnsillustration I’ve been a finalist several times and the advice I’ve been given by Joni is to submit two that were already in and switch one out for a new piece. So keep in two of your finalist pieces and add in one of your brand new pieces.

@physa great job getting your stuff in! I’m over here painting fast and furious to finish my new piece for the quarter. The art show I curated took tons of my time and I wrote three new short stories. So in reverse of what you did, I got my story in but am still finishing my art.

Good luck getting your art finished and submitted. I have the opposite problem, art is submitted, but still working on my Q3 story (first draft). Fingers crossed we both make it with a quality entry, Smile
