HELLLLO, EVERYBODY!

You can call me Vaughn (one of my pen-names, haha)

I plan to enter this contest for the first time in Q3!

I've been writing, pretty much longer than I've been reading. Literally. I remember making up stories, and then scribbling random letters on paper to pretend it was a real book, and then pretend to read it to my parents as a bed-time story

I write a lot of speculative fiction (obviously), but also enjoy writing just about all other genres of fiction. From Westerns, to Suspense Thrillers, to Political Espionage, to Historical Fiction and Alternate History. I'm also working on a couple screenplays, I also write stand-up comedy, and a lot of rap/hiphop lyrics.

I look forward to chatting with the community here, and finishing my submission to the contest!

Hello everyone,

My name is Todd, and I just realized last night that this forum existed. I see that I've been missing out. From all of the topics I've read, this seems like a very positive place to workshop ideas and get creative writing advice.

A bit about me, I only started writing fiction about 6 months ago. Prior to that, the whole of my writing experience was in non-fiction as a freelance sports writer covering Boxing in the D/M/V area. I have no formal writing training past 100 level college composition.

Last November, my fiance challenged me to give fiction a try when I commented that writing it "must be far easier than non-fiction. You have your entire imagination to fuel the story. With non-fiction, I have to take something boring and make it fun." I'll now gladly eat that roasted crow and say writing fiction is quite difficult.

I've written a few short stories since, and think I'm improving. Late last year, I worked up my nerve and decided to submit a story to a contest, the Writers of the Future Quarter 1, 2020 contest. I'm very humbled to have recieved Honorable Mention for my work and look forward to submitting more.

That led me to finding this forum, where I hope to learn and further sharpen my craft so, in a perfect world, I can be a paid author one day.

Be sure to post in the quarterly threads if you need/want to do any swaps. And check out the 450 swap thread. I've heard it said that we spend 90% of our time writing the first 10% of the story!

Good on you for getting an HM your first try. You'll find lots of help in here to help you take that even higher. Don't forget to do the Writers of the Future Online Workshop. It's a little taste of what the full meal deal in Hollywood is like!

Hi, my name is Reuben. I've wanted to write stories ever since the summer of fourth grade when I started my epic novel (which I lost).
I live in New York still living in my parents house. Don't judge me too harshly yet, though, I turn 20 in november.

I've submitted two stories to WotF so far, I haven't got the reject back on the second though, so there's still room to hope. Looking forward!

Hello! I'm Becca. I've been submitting to WOTF since 2012 when I heard Kevin talk about it at a local conference. I won an Honorable Mention that year and again in 2015 and then I kind of gave up on it (and the dream a little). But last fall I saw Kevin at another conference talking about the contest and it lit the fire in me again. Just got word I won another Honorable Mention for 1st Quarter, so I'm just going to keep working at this! Typing this all out makes Kevin seem like maybe he's the Honorable Mention Fairy?
