published in Strange New Worlds Ten.

My name is Danielle Ackley-McPhail and I am a long-time writer but not considered a pro by contest or pro organization standards.
I enter WotF occasionally when I have a story not already slated for a particular project.
Currently my story is pending for Q1 2014. Anxiously waiting. (I hate that part.)
Best,
Danielle Ackley-McPhail

Welcome, Danielle.
You should, however, edit your intro post ASAP to remove the title and story info. Since the contest is judged blind, you could be disqualified if the judges can identify the story.
Good luck!

Hi all,
My name is Sarah. I'm (hoping to be) an Author/Illustrator. I used to be an art teacher and I have one published book with a small press, but not considered pro by the contest's definition. I currently live in Utah with my husband and a few kids. Submitted to 32/1st quarter. Currently in the hold category...not exactly sure what that means. But I guess, I'll find out soon enough. When I'm not writing or hanging with the family I like to design stuff and play with power tools.
Welcome Meg, Danielle and Sarah, and any one else I may have missed. You'll find the people on this forum exceptionally gracious and willing to share their expertise. Have fun!

I haven't been to this part of the forum recently, but welcome to all our new members! I look forward to seeing you around.
Hello, everyone. I'm an old guy, retired after a business career, trying to reinvent himself as a SF writer. I've won a couple of contests (best "TaleHook", and ConDFW Sci-Fi and Fantasy conference's short story contest. Looking forward to Writers of the Future.
Welcome, Kendall! The contest is pretty good about not being ageist. Good luck!

I'm Marie Ming, author of two stories in Analog, a pile of non-fiction especially on the topics of medical physical anthropology and the genetics of mental illnesses. I have enjoyed fan and fanzine SF since 1986. I retired from teaching "the soft sciences" at the college level and now snorkel and garden a lot. Actually this is my third career, having begun work as a bathing suit model and life guard.
Welcome Marie! I think you'll like it here What kind of gardening do you do?
Welcome, Marie! Two Analog stories? Impressive!

Hi, I'm Amy. I live in Florida and I recently started writing again. While trying to figure out how to get into publishing and whatnot, I remembered growing up with the Writers of the Future books and thought I might give it a shot.
I want to make my first submission count. I know the limit is 17,000 words, but is there a minimum?
Thanks!
Welcome, Amy!
I don't know of a specific minimum, but I think the general consensus is that flash fiction won't get you very far.

Hey everyone. I'm W. N. Gilmore. I'm a retired Atlanta PD Detective (27 years. That was enough). I write a little bit of the standard; poetry, a detective series, SF, and fantacy. I started out writing what I know, detective stuff and I am working on the third novel in a series, but I had to get back to what I love; Science Fiction. I have my first entry in for WotF and working on several more (just in case). Good luck to everyone.
Welcome all you newbies! See you in the threads! Best of luck!

Hi all!
I'm a completely new writer. I've never published anything, and only started writing in earnest about two months ago. I've submitted to Writers of the Future Q2 2014, and have just started submitting other pieces of some magazines. No rejections yet! But then again I haven't had any replies either...

I've already de-lurked over on Q1 V31, but I thought I'd pop in over here to say hey and introduce myself. My name is Jesse Knifley (hence the user name) and I live in Kentucky. I've sold a few stories to smaller markets--mostly fantasy, but I'm interested in writing more SF. I didn't have anything ready for Q2, so now I'm off to spend a while working on my Q3 entry . . .
Welcome, Gizmo, Ease and Jesse!

I'm Scott.
I entered WOTF last quarter for the first time, and lurked here for a bit waiting for Thursday to come. I managed an honorable mention. 🙂
I just submitted my entry for the current quarter. Thursday can't come soon enough. Too bad there's still a month and a half to go before the contest is closed.
