Hey!
My name is David Grapengeter, pen name David Grape, and I am a new user.
I have written a score or so if short fiction and have submitted two so far to the contest. I work offshore as a commercial diver and do most of my writing when I am on the boat.

Not too late this time

Howdy there, partner. Nice to have your company as we mosey around this right nice place.

And sometimes we write too.

Hello, everyone!

I think I skipped this step. My name is Ben Jacobson (Benjamin on bylines because I have to use the name for something). I've been writing for about 5 years now. I've sold around 10 stories to smaller markets. I've been submitting to the contest off and on for about 2 years now. My record is an Honorable Mention, a rejection, a Semi-finalist and a Finalist (judgement pending). I used to spend a lot of time on Scribophile and I highly recommend it. I'm glad to have another place to talk about writing. Especially one so focused on my chosen genres. I could go on, but it gets less interesting from there.

Good to be here,

-Ben

Be officially welcomed.

Hello and welcome to all humans who have recently signed up. As for any non-humans, spambots, artificial intelligences et.al., well, you have probably come to the right place too. On the other hand if I get beaten by a story about Venus written by a Venusian then I want compensation in the form of a free round trip to your home planet.

Would Terry be the same Terry Madden who is a 30/1 Finalist or are there two Terry Maddens out there?

Nice to meet you, Ben! You're right, I am a firm Artificial Intelligence Rights Activist. As for my name, that is the correct spelling. I honestly have no idea why it is spelled that way. I used to make up stories about it, but now I just appreciate its use as an icebreaker.

Thanks S_C. Quaking together is always better than quaking alone. This looks like a great collection of writers I've found. I'm excited.

Be welcome here. Nice place to visit even though I'm not sure about actually living here--unless you're an AI or a Gator or an evil Martin.

Are you related to the Quintn of Sliders?

In either case do be careful as you explore and make the rounds, you never know when you will run into a.....

Actually, Q1 has been judged and announced. It's Q2 that's up next. Contest quarters are not calendar quarters.

Ben Wolverton, son of coordinating judge Dave Farland (Wolverton), was in a very bad longboarding accident two weeks ago. He's still in and out of consciousness, and I'm not sure if he's officially out of the coma yet. Things are very stressed right now.

So as much as we would all like to see results, we'll have to be patient. In my opinion, Dave showed the highest professionalism by flying from his son's hospital bed to Los Angeles for the workshop and the gala. Now it's time for him to be with his son and his wife and the rest of the family. We've had long quarters before. We'll get through this one like we did last year when we lost K.D.: together, with a lot of shared sympathy and humor.

(And occasional Evil! wotf013 )

I think Terry's referring to the final placements for Q1, since both he and I are finalists. If I'm correct that's out of Dave Farland's hands and in the laps of the other judges and the contest administration.

Even though not a finalist--probably not even a HM--I'm still curious too. I'm pulling for one certain person to get in...even more than the others here.

hi Claire, and aloha!
One of the best places for me when I started out was scribophile.com, an online writing workshop. (Benjamin Jacobson, a finalist in this year's Q1, also got his start there). We have a WotF group now, so stop on by if you want to!

We also have a critiqueswap sub forum here. Looking forward to getting to know you and your writing, in any case! wotf007

Hi Ishmael, its a silent "h"...it's a splicing of my maiden name (Thomson) and my married name (Bogner).
