Hello all - I lurked for all of an hour before deciding to join up! My name is Kenna, and I actually heard about this contest and submitted a story about two years ago (gosh, has it already been two years?) I've been busy finishing high school since then (no excuse, I know) and tested out early last year. I'm now a freshman at a community college here in the Southern California desert, with high hopes of becoming a novelist one day! In any case, I'm trying to get more serious about my writing, so I decided to join the forum so I could talk with other fiction fans.
I'm back!
I'm back!
He's back!
No better way to return, than to return in style.
Nice work at the awards workshop and gala, Mr. Harvey.
Coming up: "Life Flight," in
Coming up: "The Chaplain's War," from
Nebula, Hugo, and Campbell nominee.
Thanks, Brad.
Welcome, Kenna!

Welcome aboard, Kenna! I only wish I'd known about the contest at your age. It's a great motivator, and we can all use great motivators.

Nice to meet you Kenna!
Your awesome to start out so early. People improve with practice, so in the next few years you'll be unstoppable, I'm betting. I wonder who the youngest winner of the contest is? Could you beat some record out there?
Also nice to see you Brennan Harvey (Sp? - I know ideally could see your post and be able to spell your name right, sorry) - I cant wait to read your story when 27 comes out!

Welcome Kenna, and welcome back Brennan.
Is that Laurie? My fellow "sibling?"
Welcome to you, Kenna -- and I'll echo the sentiment that I wish I'd known about the contest many years ago! All the other Illustrators in our workshop literally were young enough to be my kids -- but I feel fortunate because I came home feeling like I'd been irradiated by some sort of Youthful Enthusiasm and Talent ray bomb, just from getting to hang around those amazing artists for a week! So never let your young age (or seasoned age either, comrades) make you think you're somehow not "ready" to compete -- just let the floodgates pour out what you got to show the world!
And I already said it on another thread -- but welcome the heck back, Brennan! The forum's a richer place to have you back among us!
And that's a purty cover art you have in your signature! Cliff Nielsen (the cover artist) was one of our great workshop instructors -- and that guy and the others were a gold mine of advice and inspiration!

Hi, everyone! I'm a relatively new writer. I live in Orange County, CA. I got tired of having my story tumble around in my head and decided to start writing it down. That novel lead to a short stroy that I'm trying to finish for the Q3 deadline.
Cheers,
DL

Brennan How does it feel to be a legend my dear sir....
And to the new folks! Welcome, welcome... wonderful to meet you all... I'll get back into the swing of popping on here more often again. Too many big gaps then I lose out in what's going on...
Watch me, I understand I am powerful, now see what I become when I am focused and truely understand myself......
Ha! Better one's name be 'legend' than 'legion' right?

Welcome, Inspector Karamazov! Best of luck to you!
Hello I am new here but not to the universe of writing. Hoping to try my luck with the WotF contest against you seasoned sci-fi writers. I come from the land of fantasy realm, which is down the street and five blocks over. I think. -looks at a map- I think that's how I got here. ^.^
Welcome, kaigal! But don't think this is a contest only for science fiction! Fantasy is well represented in the contest as well. I don't have my copy of Volume 26 here to do a precise count; but I know the very first story in there was fantasy, and it was by no means the only one. Submit your best story, whether it be fantasy or science fiction.

Tis my first sci-fi, I merely meant that I'm normally in the fantasy realm but I do traverse over into other areas. Thanks though for the concern ^.^
Kaigal,
My winning story was fantasy. If you write fantasy, then submit that to the contest!
