International Award-Winning Artist, Dave Dorman, Named as Judge for Worldwide Illustration Contest
LOS ANGELES – Best known for his Star Wars and Indiana Jones artwork and as an award-winning illustrator, Dave Dorman has been named as a judge in the internationally-acclaimed L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the Future Contest, it was announced by Author Services, Inc., the literary agency and administrator of the Contest.
Dorman joins other world-renowned artists on the jury panel that includes such artists as Shaun Tan, Bob Eggleton, Stephen Hickman, Cliff Nielsen and Stephen Youll. Dorman has worked in comic book illustration as well as book covers and in 2010 was the guest of honor at the San Diego Comic Con where he was awarded the prestigious Inkpot Award.
Dorman was Guest of Honor twice before at the San Diego Comic Con where he won the Eisner Award in 1993 for his paintings in the book Alien: Tribes. Although he is well known for his artwork based on such characters as Indiana Jones, Batman and Superman, he became most renowned for his Star Wars artwork as published in The Star Wars Art of Dave Dorman (Random House/FPG)
Dorman joins a distinguished panel of judges that includes artists Robert Castillo, Vincent Di Fate, Diane Dillon, Leo Dillon, Bob Eggleton, Stephen Hickman, Ron Lindahn, Val Lakey Lindahn, Cliff Nielsen, Stephan Martiniere, Judith Miller, Sergey Poyarkov, Shaun Tan, HR Van Dongen and Stephen Youll.
The Writers and Illustrators of the Future Contests were established by L. Ron Hubbard to discover and provide a chance for talented new and aspiring writers and illustrators of science fiction and fantasy to have their work seen and acknowledged. Both contests were honored with Publishers Weekly’s Outstanding Achievement Award “in recognition of 20 years of outstanding achievement of its aims.”
Since its inception, over 600 illustrators and writers have been acknowledged by the contests and have gone on to produce hundreds of illustrations, book covers, and game designs, over 700 novels (including a number of New York Times bestsellers) and more than 3,000 short stories.
