Terry
Brooks, Author of The Sword of Shannara, says:
"Writers
of the Future is a terrific program for new writers,
and goodness knows, there are few enough of those. It has my heartiest
support and unqualified recommendation."
The
Writers & Illustrators of the Future Contests are
international in scope and short stories from the yearly winners
selected from around the world are published in the annual Writers
of the Future anthology. The deadline for submissions is the end
of each quarter, i.e. March 31st, June 30th, September 30th, and
December 31st. Once every quarter all submissions are judged and
3 winners for the quarter are selected by a distinguished panel
of judges.
The winning
stories from each quarter are published in the yearly anthology,
L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future. Each anthology
contains the best new science fiction and fantasy short stories
from these winners and every story is illustrated by budding new
artists—all winners of the annual Illustrators of the Future
Contest. The winners of this short story competition get awarded
with cash prizes starting at $500 and going as high as $5,000
for the Grand Prize winner.
Established in 1983 by L. Ron Hubbard expressly for the aspiring
writer, Writers of the Future has become the most respected and
significant forum for new talent in all aspects of speculative
fiction. Unlike other short story competitions, this contest is
judged by an elite panel of judges, which includes: Kevin
J. Anderson, Doug Beason, Gregory Benford, Algis Budrys, Orson
Scott Card, Brian Herbert, Nina Kiriki Hoffman, Eric Kotani, Anne
McCaffrey, Larry Niven, Frederik Pohl, Jerry Pournelle, Tim Powers,
Robert Silverberg, Sean Williams and K.D. Wentworth.
Anne
McCaffrey, Author of The Dragonriders of Pern, says:
"A
very generous legacy from L. Ron Hubbard—a fine, fine fiction
writer—for the writers of the future."
Kevin J. Anderson, Co-Author of The Hunters
of Dune, adds:
"Prior
to L. Ron Hubbard's Writers of the Future Contest starting,
there was no field which enabled the new writer to compete with
his peers—other new writers."
