Author Services Hosts 14th Annual L. Ron Hubbard Writers & Illustrators of the Future Awards Ceremonies

he tradition of honoring the winners of the Writers of the Future® and Illustrators of the Future® Contests at a gala awards ceremony was conceived by L. Ron Hubbard in March of 1984.

It was Ron’s idea to announce the winners and release the first volume of the Writers of the Future anthology of winning stories at a Hollywood-style event that would bring all the winners to the attention of both the fans and publishers of speculative fiction and thus help launch their professional careers.

As a result, the first L. Ron Hubbard awards ceremony, honoring the winners of the 1984 contest year, was held in February of 1985 at Chasen’s in Beverly Hills, a restaurant legendary for its celebrity clientele.
