ASI: How many writers wrote for more than one type of pulp magazine? Jack: Most of the pulp writers tended to specialize in one particular field. L. Ron Hubbard was unusual in that he was so prolific and wrote for many different kinds of magazines. He traveled pretty widely and had firsthand information in various arenas. He had the first electric typewriter that I ever heard about and it was said he wrote 2,000 words an hour and sold his stories in first draft. He certainly turned out more fiction than most of us could write and sell. ASI: What do you remember about Ron coming on the science fiction scene?
Jack: I believe that he was immediately successful writing science fiction and he became very popular. I especially remember the Ole Doc Methuselah stories, which is a series about future medicine. There was always some medical disaster and Ole Doc came along and saved the day using his medical science and skills.
