An interview with Jack Williamson

Jack Williamson

 S
cience fiction has had many great pioneers who explored the future through literature and made it one of the most influential of all literary genres.

Few of those trailblazing writers, however, started earlier and came farther than Jack Williamson. He was born in 1908 and raised on a New Mexican farm, but his imagination reached far beyond the horizon, all the way to the stars.

His novels Darker Than You Think, The Humanoids and The Legion of Space series are undisputed classics in the field. His most recent book, The Black Sun,was published in 1997 and the next, The Silicon Dagger, will be published in the spring of 1999.

Jack was also among the first of the renowned professional writers of science fiction to become a judge in the L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest. In September 1998, he was awarded the L. Ron Hubbard Lifetime Achievement Award for Contributions to the Arts.

ASI spoke with Jack at his home in Portales, New Mexico.
