ASI: What is your understanding of how Ron came to write science fiction for Astounding?

There is a claim that he was brought into Campbell and that Campbell was told to buy everything he wrote. That’s obviously unbelievable but it happens to be true, as I found out myself. Apparently some top guys at Street & Smith felt that the name of L. Ron Hubbard was golden on the strength of his many sales to other fiction markets, and they wanted to market science fiction to a wider audience.

Campbell, though, got over his initial embarrassment and quickly realized that Ron Hubbard was an uncommon genius, because they worked well together right from the start.
