L. Ron Hubbard’s Writers of the Future ® Contest

Literally every day of every year since 1983, they have mailed their stories in to L. Ron Hubbard’s Writers of the Future Contest. The envelopes display postage of every English-speaking country and many that speak other tongues. Age is not a factor. Contestants have ranged from eleven to seventy-five. Backgrounds and occupations are equally diverse. Doctors, lawyers, truck drivers, housewives, factory workers, farmers, dentists, students and professors are just a few of the occupations that have participated. Command of the language varies from young and undeveloped to the highest echelons of sophistication; but every entrant shares one common characteristic – the urge to communicate a story that is a work of art.

HE’S A JUDGE: Dave Wolverton – A judge for L. Ron Hubbard’s Writers of the Future Contest – is also a New York Times best-selling author who was himself a winner of the Writers of the Future Contest.

Administered by Author Services, Inc. (ASI), on behalf of L. Ron Hubbard, the Writers of the Future Contest has provided encouragement and opportunity to novice writers over thirteen years. More than that, it has offered a springboard for a career to some of the most promising writers. The contest is a wellspring of creativity that has inspired a generation of creative writers. Winners alone have gone on to sell well over one hundred novels and more than one thousand short stories. Entrants who have never won also point to their participation in the contest as the driving force that speeded their entry into the professional ranks.

What if there were a place where none of that mattered?

What if someone would judge a new writer’s work on merit alone?...”

— Writers of the Future Award Winner
