Kevin
J. Anderson has been a judge for over 11 years
in the contest that helps launch the careers of
new and aspiring writers—L. Ron
Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future. And
the results have been tremendous with over 300
authors getting a start on the path to success
and professional writing careers.
In
addition to judging stories as part of a panel
of writers, including Anne McCaffrey, Tim Powers,
Orson Scott Card, Larry Niven, Jerry Pournelle
and Robert Silverberg, over the years Kevin has
made a point to personally lecture and give advice
at the week-long writing workshop for winners
of the contest—establishing himself as one
of the most anticipated speakers with his "Business
of Writing" lecture.

The first story in this year's L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers
of the Future Volume 22 is by Blake Hutchins, a one-time
public defender, firefighter, computer-game designer and teacher
who is now writing full-time. His story, The Sword from
the Sea, marks the launch of his professional career. After
having spent a rigorous week at the Writers of the Future workshop
in Carlsbad, California, topped off by a black-tie Achievement
Awards gala at San Diego's Air & Space Museum, he had this
