Submitted by admin on Fri, 08/27/2010Hello Everyone!
Here is your update on Day 3 of the Writers and Illustrators of the Future week of activities here in Hollywood, California.
The first thing you should know is that the Awards Ceremony will be held this Saturday night at 7:30 PM (PST). It is going to be streamed live online at www.writersofthefuture.com. Details on where to click to see the show will be on the home page in the NEWS section. This way you will also be able to be part of the excitement of the event.
But now, back to the activities of the day. It started for the writers with another series of discussions on writing tools with Judges K. D. Wentworth and Tim Powers.

One assignment for the day required the writers to go out onto the street and meet people, talk to them and get story and character ideas from these interviews.

Another assignment was for the writers to go to the local library and research story ideas based on their own personal experience.

The writers ended off at 5:00 PM for the most intense assignment of the week; they have 24 hours to write a story based on what they learned in the workshop, the interviews and research they did, and the item given to them earlier in the week which they have to weave into the storyline.

The illustrators started off the day with a tour of Author Services, Inc., by Contest Director, Joni Labaqui.

Then they went into their first workshop with Contest Judges: Ron Lindahn, Val Lakey Lindahn and Stephen Hickman for a series of lectures and study assignments.

They are then given a creative assignment.

The Instructors then go through each piece giving tips and advice to improve the art.

The illustrators are then given their homework assignments and the day is a wrap.

Join us tomorrow for another action packed day where the workshops continue and preparations for big event gets started!
