The 1st Awards Ceremony was held at the famous Chasen's Restaurant in Beverly Hills, CA on 6 February 1985. In attendance were winners of the Writers of the Future Contest for the first three quarters, 1 Jan 1984 to 30 Sep 1984. As the first volume of L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future was scheduled for publication in February 1985, the cutoff date for entries in the first year was September 30, 1984 which gave the judges time to complete their judging and the publisher the needed time to prepare and print the manuscript.

Each volume contains creative tales selected by top authors in the speculative fiction field, and also includes articles on writing and illustration from the foremost writers and artists in the genre including L. Ron Hubbard, Ben Bova, Anne McCaffrey and Frank Herbert to name a few. The titles of each of these articles can be seen here. Purchase this volume now and gain invaluable information to help foster your own growth as a writer or illustrator.
