Peters (center) with judges Laura Brodian Freas and Frank Kelly Freas. |
Born and raised in the Los Angeles area, Fritz Peters began painting and drawing
at the age of three. With the
encouragement and support of his parents, he began attending private art classes
at age nine. While still in high
school, Peters completed four semesters of fine and applied art courses at
Pierce College in Woodland Hills, California.
Following high school graduation, Peters decided to continue his artistic
endeavors primarily for non-commercial reasons.
In the early nineties, a friend introduced Peters to Kelly Freas. After
having reviewed Fritz's portfolio, Freas advised Peters to enter The L. Ron
Hubbard Illustrators of the Future Contest.
When Peters did not place as a finalist, he decided to take a break from
competing. Instead, he devoted the
following years to expanding his portfolio and to refining his artistic skills.
Peters believes it is the artist’s responsibility to draw attention to
the divinity residing in all things. He is currently living in a small, modest
Hindu retreat and is a student of Indian art, symbolism, and iconography.
His goal for his art is to fuse images of Americana with the beauty,
spirituality and freedom of Indian art and philosophy.
