Tom Brennan gives
his acceptance speech.

Born in 1965 in Liverpool, U.K., Tom Brennan was educated at the local high school, where he became a voracious reader with a particular interest in SF.  He began his working life as a mainframe operator for the U.K. government and eventually became a freelance communications contractor.

In late 1999, Tom took time out to start writing fiction, which had been his dream since childhood.  He is self-taught, having had no formal writing training so far.  He wants to explore the relationships and responses of being placed in extreme situations and thinks SF offers, by far, the most exciting possibilities.

Tom enjoys a wide variety of literature and music, traveling, cycling and hiking.  He worked across the U.K. as a freelance data communications contractor for a few years, but has since returned to Liverpool, where he lives by the sea with his wife, Sylvia, and cat, Sheba.  In terms of writing, he states he feels he’s taken the first few steps on a steep mountain track, but is looking forward to the journey ahead.
